Many believe that it is possible to take over the fear and through the power of self-hypnosis to reduce the fear and deal with it. In order to do this, the person must set up the self-hypnosis area.

Start by putting on some loose and comfortable clothing. Find a soothing and comfortable place to sit such as the sofa, a recliner, a favourite chair or lie back on the bed supporting the head and neck with plenty of pillows.

Take a moment to get comfortable and sit down and get into position. Relax the mind by finding an object across the room to focus on. It could be a picture, a lamp, an object, whatever you desire.

Focus solely on this item and allow everything else to fall away from the mind. Once you’ve cleared your mind of anything else, begin to slowly count backward from 10. At each number, pause for a moment and tell yourself something positive.

It can be along the lines of “It’s okay if I sometimes vomit”. “Sometimes I may have to clean up vomit from the kids but it will be okay”. “I am strong”. “I can deal with this”. You get the idea. Each number should have a comment that is positive and reaffirming like this.

Write out a mantra that you can say while you’re under self-hypnosis and while you’re not under self-hypnosis. It could be something like, “I can deal with this when I have to”. Anything along those lines is fine but be prepared to say it to yourself while you’re under self-hypnosis and while you’re not under hypnosis.

Do this each day for at least 20 minutes. In time, you should see and feel a change in how you perceive your phobia. Patience and diligence will pay off as you rewire your brain to deal with things that used to seem impossible to deal with.

Remember that you’re going to have to practice this on a daily basis in order to overcome your phobia. It will take time and effort and you’ll have to truly want to overcome your phobia.

Phobias don’t have to be debilitating and you can learn to control them with practice. Commit yourself to practising your self-hypnosis on a daily basis and saying your mantra whenever you need to and you should begin to feel freedom from your phobia.

If you truly want to change, you can do it. Anyone can do it. The art of self-hypnosis isn’t anything new, you can literally help yourself through a myriad of issues all by choosing this method.
